In Our Own Voice Action Fund Statement on 2024 Election Results

Black women, girls, and gender expansive people need Reproductive Justice, which is the human right to control our sexuality, our gender, our work, and our reproduction. The administration in power will never change this immutable fact. On the precipice of another Trump Administration, our resolve to fight for Black women remains the same.

We’ve seen the dangerous repercussions of a conservative presidency: Roe v Wade overturned, conservative judges empowered to roll back more of our rights, pregnant people facing criminalization in some states simply for the “crime” of miscarrying while trying to seek life-saving care, and so much more. Enduring these next four years will not be easy, but we’ve been here before. We are just as equipped today to apply pressure on elected officials and advocate for Reproductive Justice as we were four years ago, and as we have been since the beginning of our movement.

Last night, 7 states passed constitutional amendments to enshrine abortion rights, including Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska and Nevada. Furthermore, we are thrilled that two of our endorsed candidates, Senators-elect Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), won their races and will continue fighting for intersectional and equitable solutions in the Senate. While we wait on the final results in California and Oregon, we look forward to seeing how these two leaders will work to advance Reproductive Justice on behalf of their constituents.

We have a lot of work to do over the next four years, and we are fired up and ready to begin working with these Reproductive Justice champions to ensure that Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people always have a seat at the table.

Let’s get to work,
